Here is your most recent issue of High Current News. It's packed full of information to keep you updated with the latest "MIG" & "TIG" news, product information and updates from D/F MACHINE SPECIALTIES.

D/F is a world leader in the design, development, and manufacture of "MIG" & "TIG" welding products, consumables & accessories.

The Advantage of TIG Spot Welding

D/F TIG Pistol Spot GunTIG spot welding holds an important place where normal resistance spot welding cannot be employed. Accessibility to the underside of a weldment can be restricted by an adjacent work-piece or other space constraint.

Although TIG spot welding might not produce welds as timely as a MIG application might, technology with power sources, controls and torches making this process easier to use, as well as greatly improving the quality of the spots over MIG.

The use of hand-held Arc spot welding is especially applicable for situations where resistance spots welding needs high pressure, high currents, does not have easy access and thus fails to weld. Further, the process can be used at relatively high temperatures since a short arc time will not promote distortion in the material being welded.

For GTAW spot welding, D/F recommends the Water-Cooled TIG Pistol Spot Gun

Water-Cooled Kel-Melt (KMF) TIG Torch

The Water-Cooled Kel-Melt (KMF) "TIG" Torch is intended for use with a Kel-Melt Sample Re-Melt Furnace. This heavy duty Water-Cooled TIG Torch is specific to this machine application and the tungsten inert arc process. The torch accommodates 3/16" tungsten with a tubular single collet design providing clamping pressure. This torch is a direct replacement to the unit used in a Kel-Melt Furnace made by Zeebac, Inc.

  • Direct replacement to the Kel-Melt (KMF) torch by Zeebac, Inc.
  • High remelt reproducibility rate with minimal alloy losses
  • Water-cooled up to 500 amps continuous duty

D/F Welding Tips & Tricks - Proper Fillet Welds

fillet A proper fillet weld will ensure a much stronger and consistent weld. This technique not only depends on the skill of the weldor, but also on the equipment parameters used. Here are some tips for creating effective fillet welds.

  • When sizing the fillet, the thickness of the weld should be about the same thickness of the two pieces being welded together.
  • A travel speed that is too slow might create a weld that is too thick and misshapen. A travel speed to fast won't create a large enough weld.
  • When shielding gas is delivered to rapidly it can cause turbulence and create porous welds, causing them to weaken and become misshapen.
  • Using an amperage rating too high or too low will inconsistently melt the wire. This will also lead to inconsistency and malformation.
  • It is important to achieve sufficient penetration on both sides of the weldment joint. Insufficient penetration will take away from the strength of the weld.
If you have any questions about Proper Fillet Welds, do not hesitate to contact D/F and talk to an engineer who will help you with your concerns.

D/F Sneezer Anti-Spatter Gas Purge System
The D/F Sneezer Anti- Spatter Gas Purge System will reduce and help prevent spatter and buildup in the gas nozzle and minimize the need for nozzle cleaning. Anti-spatter mist injected through the gas ports in the gas diffuser coats the inside of the nozzle to prevent spatter build-up. Instead of cleaning after six or seven parts, numerous parts can be welded before cleaning is needed.
